The countdown is on for one of the largest firework displays in the world.
8 cruise ships are already in position, with another 4 to join later making it a record year equaling 2007 with 12 cruise ships.
Just the cruise ships alone will have over 25,000 passengers and crew watching the fireworks, and Praça do Mar is expecting 10,000 plus people ready to party. 10s of Thousands more will be watching from viewpoints and houses round the bay of Funchal.
