The Board of Directors of APRAM decided to institute the 18th of July as the “Day of the Port”, evoking July 18, 1962, when Madeira inaugurated a port with conditions for berthing vessels and the indispensable service of supplying Liquid fuel to navigation.
It was thus fulfilled, an aspiration of centuries.
The Port of Funchal has always been regarded as fundamental to the development not only of the city of Funchal, but of the entire region.
