Fire-Fighters of Calheta Learn English

The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Civil Protection Service IP-RAM, will start a specific training in English for the Calheta Volunteer Fire-fighters, aiming to improve the training of these elements in the provision of relief to tourists.

The course will begin, September 25, 2018, at 2:00 pm, at the Calheta Volunteer Fire Brigade with the presence of the Regional Secretary for Health, Pedro Ramos. They lessons will be in work time twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This course was specially prepared for the Fire-fighters and to meet their needs in providing relief to tourists, who daily travel the levadas and the sidewalks of that County.

The Calheta Volunteer Fire-fighters currently have 60 members, who serve on a daily basis in that Corporation, in the context of the rescue of people and property.

The high requirement of their functions associated with the difficulty of communication in case of incidents with tourists encouraged the Regional Civil Protection Service IP-RAM to support the implementation of a training aimed at enabling the Calheta Fire-fighters in the English language. A deeper knowledge of communication skills in a foreign language will be faster and more effective.

This could be rolled out to all areas of Madeira, and also include other emergency services.
