1830 hrs for 1900 hrs       The Royal British Legion – Madeira

Dear Members/Friends,

Well the time has come for us to think of our next Dinner.   Before that I would like to catch up on a couple of items.

The BBQ/Street Party was a great success and enjoyed by everyone who attended, I have not had one complaint or received one via others!  that has got to be a first.  We managed to donate 80€ to the Casa do Combatents who let us use their facilities at no charge and set everything up ready for our use, also, in addition we raised 300€ towards the Poppy Appeal.  My thanks to everyone who participated also to Pip and Dave who organised and ran the raffle.  The event was also named as a Street Party for HM The Queen’s 90th and Madeira will be added on the plaque being given to Her Majesty as having held a RBL street party in her honour.

Our next event will be a Buffet Dinner to be held at the Hotel Escola and the price of the buffet will be

???? per head to include aperitif, wine and coffee.   A draw will be held to gather funds for our ex-servicemen and women from all wars, and their dependants, who are less fortunate than ourselves. (tbc clarified).  If you have anything suitable to add to the raffle please bring it with you.  Please, also bring your diaries with you I shall be looking for as many volunteers as possible to sell poppies during the official period 29 October thru 10 November.  A collecting tin will remain at the Church after the 10th as it is private property, i.e. for the Service on the 13th.

Dress will be smart casual: a blazer/suit with tie/cravat for men and corresponding dress for ladies. All those who have medals and/or decorations are asked to wear them in accordance with Legion custom.

To finalize arrangements, I need to know how many will be attending this event, so will you please contact me on 291 600 432/961 090 998 or [email protected]  by Friday 30th September to let me know if you will be attending and if you have a table seating preference (tables of 8 maximum).

Jean Faulkner will be organising an event for children from the International School and hopefully other schools at Holy Trinity on 11th November at 11 to explain ….. check Jean’s paper work.   It would be nice if some our members could attend.

The official Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday 13th November PLEASE could we have more members attending, it is embarrassing to have only a handful present when the visitors fill the Church.  This will be following by lunch in the gardens, offered by Cannon John and his helpers, with all proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal.  This year it will be food from around the world – thus hopefully everyone’s tastes will be catered for!
