The Santana Volunteer Firefighters set up a rescue operation at about 3:15 pm today for a tourist who suffered a fall in the levada that connects Fajã da Nogueira in Santana to Caldeirão do Inferno, and fractured one of the lower limbs. The man was rescued around 6 pm and was transported to the hospital.
The alert for this situation was given by the Civil Protection Service and 6 firefighters were sent for the rescue. The place of the fall took 45 minutes to reach, a man of 36 years was accompanied by another individual, identified as his brother.
The transport of the wounded to the road took about an hour and a half.
