Workers at the EMC (Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira) who produce the Beer Coral on the island, today went on strike, as they have not received a pay rise since 2011.
The union official explained that all workers’ representatives have a proposal for a salary increase of 4% or 40 euros minimum in the current year but that the administration of the ECM has not been available for the dialogue. “This is a healthy company, has profits and has to safeguard the rights of its workers. This is the company wanting profits over profits and workers are not available to give in to this situation, “said the same spokesman, who accuses the ECM of betting on the lapse of the collective bargaining agreement.
Update from today says the strike was called off ar 10.30am after only 1 worker turned up.
