“Sentinels” by Pamela Benporath.
A new exhibition at Restock Gallery.
This body of work explores the view from my studio, looking out over the 4th largest harbour in the Southern Hemisphere, operating 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day, handling over 30 million tons of cargo a year, from about 4500 commercial vessels per year* – it never sleeps!
Despite this bustling activity and never ending action in the harbor, it and the city come across almost docile and silent. The ever-changing weather, light, atmosphere, clouds, sunrises and sunsets offers a lifetime’s worth of opportunities for sketching and painting this one subject. I look forward to seeing how this body of work develops.
Pamela Benporath is an artist living and working in Durban, South Africa.
The exhibition runs through to 13th July 2017.
