On Tuesday afternoon, the Corps of Nature Watchers detected two illegal fishing situations within the Garajau Reserve.
The first, with the support of the Maritime Authority, “was intercepted a vessel that was fishing inside the Reserve”, says the secretary of the environment in a statement.
The second situation, detected was already at the end of the day, were intercepted two individuals underwater fishing.
During this action was seized various fishing equipment and about 35kg of fish.
This Nature Reserve is located to the east of Funchal and has an extension of approximately six miles between Ponta do Lazareto and Ponta da Oliveira. The protected area extends between the beach-sea line and the bathymetric of 50m to the south or, in case of doubt, never before 600m of the coast.
