A 58-year-old man was struck by a rock at 11:30 am today when he was walking along the Levada Nova da Calheta.
The citizen of German nationality had a deep cut in the head, as well as suspected fracture of an arm and / or collarbone.
The Volunteer Firefighters of Calheta sent 10 persons and two vehicles to the site. The incident happened well into the walk, with no roadway nearby, which made the rescue more time consuming.
After being properly immobilized, the tourist was taken to the Calheta Health Centre and later to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
The firemen returned to the barracks by 15 o’clock.
