The former goalkeeper of the Estrela da Calheta, Paulo Rocha, died Sunday at the end of the morning, during a mountain bike ride with friends.
The 42-year-old was riding in Arco de Baúlhe on a bicycle and suffered sudden death. His friends called for help but there was no chance of saving the ex-athlete.
As an athlete, Paulo Rocha trained at AD Fafe, a club he represented over several seasons. Later he ventured into Madeira defending the colours of the Estrela da Calheta, and was considered the best goalkeeper of the Madeira Regional Championship. The passage through the island club was given because Paulo Rocha, who was a teacher, was placed in the Region to teach Physical Education classes. The athlete also acted in the Sporting Group of Silvares and Athletic Cabeceirense.
