A 33-year-old crewman aboard the Maran Gas Achilles tanker, sailing about 208 miles northeast of Ponta de São Lourenço, was rescued today by the Portuguese Air Force helicopter.

In view of the clinical picture of the victim, the EH-101 helicopter and the C295 aircraft from the Madeira Air and Porto Santo Detachment were deployed for this rescue, and the crew member was disembarked at Madeira Airport at 15:52, where it was awaited by an ambulance of the Santa Cruz Municipal Firefighters who transported him to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital in a stable situation, said the Madeira Maritime Zone Command in a statement.

It should be noted that this rescue operation was coordinated by the Navy through the Center for Coordination of Maritime Search and Rescue in Lisbon in coordination with the Sub-Center for Coordination of Maritime Search and Rescue of Funchal and in articulation with the Portuguese Air Force and the Service Regional Office for Civil Protection.
