Hotels doing well, cruise ships decrease.
Madeira registers a rise of 3.5% in overnight stays and 7.1% in total revenues in September.
Madeiran hotels are still up. In September, total revenues rose 7%. In the first nine months of the year tourism generated 320 million euros of revenue.
In September 137 thousand tourists visited the island and guaranteed 738 thousand overnight stays. In the first nine months of the year, there were 1 million and 124 thousand tourists in Madeira, with the British, French and German markets growing slightly more than one percentage point. According to data provided by the Port of Madeira Administration, between January and September of this year 287 thousand passengers were registered in transit on cruise ships, 14% less than in the same period of last year.
The number of stopovers also decreased by 13%, minus 24 ships than in the first months of 2016.
