The Prime Minister, António Costa, has just announced a large investment by Google in Portugal. This is Google’s new Service Center for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The new technology hub will create 500 highly qualified jobs and will be in Oeiras.
António Costa made this announcement in Davos, Switzerland, within the framework of the World Economic Forum, at a conference entitled “Why Portugal, why now”, attended by Economy Ministers Manuel Caldeira Cabral and Finance Mário Centeno.
The prime minister referred to this investment by Google in his speech, which opened the conference and was dedicated to presenting Portugal to foreign investors as a competitive country.
“Among many investing in prospects I highlight one: Portugal will soon host an investment from Google, which will start soon with the creation of 500 skilled jobs,” said the prime minister.
According to an official source of the Portuguese Government, this investment by Google was disputed by several countries.
