The Island will be on Red Alert tomorrow for strong seas in the south, and high winds in the mountain zones.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere raised to the maximum level the warning for the south coast of the island of Madeira due to the maritime agitation.
The latest update, released a few moments ago, warrant the weather forecast, the highest on the scale, due to the southwest waves passing to the west with 5 to 7 meters in height and can reach the maximum height of 14 meters.
The red warning is valid between midday and midnight tomorrow, Wednesday. At this time, the orange warning is in effect.
Due to the sea turmoil, the authorities recommend special precautions to the population, namely avoiding to circulate in coastal zones and areas at risk of coastal erosion, taking into account the possible allocation of buildings.
Five roads were closed and thirteen are conditioned in the Autonomous Region of Madeira due to rain and wind, according to the latest information updated at 6 pm on Tuesday.
Thus, the following regional roads were prohibited: ER 110 – Lombo das Faias Site, between Santo da Serra and Portela; ER 110 – Next to the new Cemetery of Porto da Cruz; ER 218 – Between Pico das Pedras and Achada do Teixeira; ER 221 – between Seixal and Chão da Ribeira; ER 105 – between the mouth of Encumeada and the Bica da Cana (Paúl da Serra).
