The archipelago of Madeira recorded yesterday and this morning, two earthquakes.
According to the seismological information issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the first earthquake, of magnitude 2.1 on the Richter scale, occurred yesterday at 5:24 pm and had its epicentre south of Ribeira Brava. The second earthquake, of magnitude 1.5 on the Richter scale, occurred this morning at 00h17, and had its epicentre southwest of Ribeira Brava.
The Azores Islands have also recorded a great deal of activity with over 100 earthquakes recorded in the last 36 hours. Although very small, the largest was 3.6 on the Richter scale, but at least 20 were felt by the population.
