A 55-year-old German tourist was bitten by a Portuguese Caravel,( Portuguese Man o War)
The man, who was swimming on the beach of ‘Roca Mar’ in Caniço de Baixo was surprised by several Portuguese ‘Caravelas’ that were in the area.
According to what was established, the victim was full of stings from the Portuguese caravel and suffered several muscular spasms.
The rescuer swimmers helped the victim from the sea, and applied first aid.
Subsequently the victim complained of pains in the belly.
The rescuer swimmers alerted the Municipal Fire-fighters of Santa Cruz, at 4:10 pm, and sent the man to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
