Two continental tourists were seriously injured after an accident involving Monte’s traditional basket toboggans.
Tourists wanted to descend Monte in the famous basket carts, but ended up being the victims of a violent accident in the Livramento area, which left them in a serious condition.
The Portuguese Red Cross was called to the scene, having given first aid. In the rescue operation were two ambulances and eight rescuers of the Portuguese Red Cross.
The continental tourists are being referred to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. Jornal Madeira says that the zero emergency room of the hospital unit was triggered due of the severity of the injuries.
It’s believed the couple are aged about 30, and the accident happened around 12.30pm.
