The Regional Government intended to purchase a certain number of tickets and make them available to students at cheaper prices. Tap, Easyjet and Transavia have all refused.
The three airlines operating scheduled flights between the mainland again showed no sensitivity to the increased costs of flights between mainland Portugal and Mdeira, and were unavailable to meet the Regional Government’s attempts to overcome these constraints , in what refers to the university students of Madeira.
Easyjet and Transavia did not respond and TAP said no to the Regional Governors proposal. In the negative response, TAP also considered “strange” the intention of the Regional Government to sue the company for damages caused to the economy due to delays and cancellations of flights this year, implying some distrust in the company.
The Regional Government does not give in, and ensures that it has already put in place another solution, to be announced soon. From JM
