It was through electronic communication, at 7:30 p.m. yesterday, that the Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE) received a complaint regarding food unfit for consumption in a supermarket in the RAM. In the case, it was fresh skipjack, which contained parasites.
“Following the protocol of intervention of the ARAE, the complaint was immediately verified on the spot by a veterinarian,” explains a note from the vice-presidency of the Regional Government.
“At the time of the inspection, 9 fish (fresh skipjack) were confirmed with parasites, out of a total of 12 in this commercial unit. The ARAE brigade requested the presence of the Regional Directorate of Fisheries to identify the parasite in question, “the note said.
“The product was withdrawn and rendered useless as a precautionary measure and preventive public health, except for three units that were for laboratory research, under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Fisheries.”
Lastly. the expert classified the product as an abnormal food, corrupt, unfit for consumption, which constitutes illicit of a criminal nature, reason why the records will be sent to the Public Ministry.
