In a statement to the press on Thursday, MPT Madeira officials requested the presence of the Maritime Police, today, in the Parish of Porto da Cruz, “to take measures” regarding the removal of pebbles from the coast of Maiata beach.

The situation, they say, drags on “for years, with nothing being done.”

According to the MPT, there are already complaints in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and both the Municipal Council of Machico and the Town Council of Porto da Cruz are “aware of this very serious environmental attack”, but “do nothing to put an end to this situation.”

The party believes that this attitude “is a serious ecological crime committed against the natural heritage of the Madeirans, which must be investigated by the competent authorities.”  Taken from DN
