As of yesterday it is now possible to renew your driving license online.
Drivers who use the new IMT service via the Internet to renew or replace a driving license will receive a 10% discount, while those who continue to travel to an IMT counter will pay for this procedure 30 euros.
The IMT online service is one of the innovations that appears in the changes to the issuance of driving titles, a project titled by the Government of “letter on wheels” and integrated in the program Simplex.
Also from Monday, drivers will have to change their driving license when they change their address, starting to count the one that is registered on the citizen’s card.
According to the IMT, the information regarding the driver’s address is removed from the face of the driving license, and it will only be included in the IMT database, the one on the citizen’s card.
The validity of driving licenses will also increase from 10 to 15 years in the case of drivers up to the age of 60, and the deadlines for the remaining situations will remain unchanged.
Another of the new measures, which will only come into force in April, is related to the medical certificates, which will be transmitted electronically by the Ministry of Health to the IMT, allowing automatic registration of the medical evaluation made to the driver, with eventual restrictions.
The medical certificate becomes only necessary for the revalidation of the 60 years and later.
These new measures aim to reduce waiting times for service and response times for the issuance of driving licenses.
