Its the big build up to New Years Eve now, with 10 cruise ships in the bay for one of the biggest firework displays in the world.
34,000 passengers and crew will be on the 10 ships shown below, along with an estimated 28,000 staying in hotels.
The fireworks display is expected to be bigger than the World Record we won in 2006/2007, they are aiming to beat their own record to celebrate the 600 year celebrations.
We will also be keeping an eye on the weather, with rain expected for the 31st December and 1st January. I have not witnessed a wet New Years Eve in 13 years of living here, we have had rain before and straight after, but it has always been good for the fireworks. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.
If you are not lucky enough to be on the island to see the fireworks, you will be able to watch them live at https://www.rtp.pt/play/direto/rtpmadeira
If you are lucky to be on the Island let me know where you plan to watch the fireworks, and see in the New Year.
I plan to be in Funchal this year, something I have never done, so it will be a new experience watching them from the front of Funchal.
