The GNR seized at the beginning of the weekend 45 kilos of snapper and 10 kilos of grouper from recreational fishing, in the Marina of Calheta.
The military identified two men, aged 57 and 60, both owners of recreational fishing vessels, for catching fish that exceeds the daily maximum allowable per vessel that is 20 kilograms. The men are now subject to a maximum fine of 200 euros. At the time it was also verified that the fishermen did not cut the caudal fin of the fish, a compulsory procedure in the recreational fishing embarked, to prevent that the fish is commercialised in restaurants, a situation that can lead to a fine of 2000 euros. The seized fish was delivered to two social solidarity institutions in the municipality of Machico.
