Part of the outskirts of the town of Calheta is already closed, in order to carry out the work on the slope above the recreation port of Calheta. But merchants, who today should have their shops closed, kick their feet and keep their places in full operation.
It should be remembered that the works should have already advanced last week but, at the request of the merchants installed there, the Regional Government decided to extend for another week the start of the works so that the entrepreneurs had more time to leave the space.
At this moment, Jornal Madeira know, all the restaurants keep their doors open, and on a sunny day, with the terraces filled with customers.
Business owners are still waiting for guarantees, especially in terms of compensation, claiming that they have not received any written communication, nor have they signed any agreement for this exit.
It should also be noted that although the road is closed since midday on Monday, several vehicles are parked on the section closed since this morning, thus conditioning the work in that area. From now on, car and pedestrian traffic is prohibited in the section from the Beira Mar restaurant to the Rocha Mar restaurant.
The intervention, which is based on reinforcement of the containment structures of the slope, lasts for about three months, during which transit and establishments will be closed by security measures.
