This is a result and update from the story I published a couple of days ago.

The Judiciary Police detained 12 people, some of whom traveled to Funchal aboard the MSC Opera, holding about 200,000 individual doses of cocaine, something like 15-20 kilos of cocaine that would later be taken by air to several points in Europe.

The Department of Criminal Investigation of Funchal, with the support of the Public Security Police of the Regional Command of Madeira, yesterday triggered Operation Poseidon, in the context of combating international narcotics trafficking, PJ said in a press release.

Twelve persons, 6 men and 6 women of various nationalities and ages between 20 and 52 years were identified and detained.

“This operation was triggered in the development of recent research, in the field of combating narcotics trafficking, of an international character,” explains the PJ.

The arrests took place at various times and places in the city of Funchal, following investigations to locate individuals and seize cocaine in a high degree of purity and quantity that could amount to about 200,000 individual doses, that is something like 20 kilos of narcotic product.

Part of the suspects traveled on a cruise ship from the MSC company, which originated in the Caribbean, with the aim of landing the drug in Madeira.

The remaining individuals were staying in Funchal, prepared to travel by air to various destinations on the European continent, PJ said.

“It should be noted that the cruise company, contacted by the Judicial Police, provided relevant cooperation and facilitated the operational development of the investigation,” said the criminal police agency.
