The Public Security Police today carried out a surveillance operation directed at pyrotechnic companies in several localities of the country that also covered Madeira. Information is scarce. It is only known that, in the Region, pyrotechnic material was seized in Calheta.
However, it has not yet been ascertained whether there have been any arrests in the West.
According to Pedro Moura, responsible for the Department of Arms and Explosives of the Public Security Police, this operation called ‘Firework II’ started at 7 o’clock with home searches and is still ongoing. It is taking place in pyrotechnic units in the districts of Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo and Madeira.
Pedro Moura said that nine people were apprehended and seized “a lot of material”, namely explosive products, pyrotechnic articles, gunpowder and articles of dangerous materials.
The official said nine home searches and eight non-domiciliary searches were conducted.
The crimes of trafficking in explosives, arrest of weapons and falsification of documents are at stake.
