The esplanades of Rua Dr. Fernão de Ornelas have already started to reduce the space occupied, a decision that resulted from the survey that the Municipality of Funchal is already developing, in the field, and that covers the majority of the streets of the city. The operation is for inspection, but today was already visible a smaller amount of tables and chairs in the streets.
The communication office of the Funchal Chamber presidency explains that “at the moment, we are developing a routine survey, which will cover all the streets of Funchal, in order to make a survey on everything that is not authorised.”
In this context, after this same survey, the Municipality “will then take whatever measures prove necessary”.
It is recalled that the occupation of the public spaces by esplanades has been the subject of debate in recent times, due to some situations that present some doubts, regarding the conformity with the respective authorisations, being registered recently in Praça do Carmo, an intervention which had as a result the withdrawal of all the flowerpots that surrounded the esplanades and which were not duly authorised.
It is recalled that Dr. Fernão de Ornelas Street was the target of an intervention and part closed to the car traffic, and the pedestrian access was recently opened and, consequently, the street came to have a new reality that perhaps will be the target of some readjustments.
