Funchal, Santa Cruz and Machico present “very high” fire risks, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In these three counties, as well as in Câmara de Lobos and Santana, there are even areas that present the ‘maximum’ risk of fire, as can be seen in the image taken from the IPMA page.
In Porto Santo, as has been seen in recent days and as it is predicted for the next ones, the risk of fire is ‘high’, as in Câmara de Lobos. The rest of Madeira has a ‘moderate’ risk.
It should be recalled that the meteorological index of fire hazard makes it possible to estimate the fire hazard from the state of the various fuels present in the forest soil, which is determined indirectly through observations of meteorological elements, taking into account temperature, relative humidity, the intensity of the wind and the precipitation accumulated in the last 24 hours.
