On Friday 3rd of May Ia new confectionery called Bubble Confeitaria & Café was opened in Funchal, CentroMar Shopping centre. Although confectionery in the place has been operational since the end of March, the owners of the café wished to have some introductory period before official opening, to present new cakes and gain feedback from local people. Having sampled some of the products myself at the opening, the p+lace is well worth a visit in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Bubble Confeitaria & Café is very different from other confectionery businesses on Madeira island, as it is ran by two active Estonian women Agne and Kaidi. They have created tiny Nordic style café, where all cakes on offer are produced on site, in their own kitchen. The recipes used by Agne and Kaidi are Estonian and Nordic origin and have been adjusted according to Portuguese and Madeiran conditions. This is how the fusion of the tastes and traditions of Estonia, Nordic countries, central Europe, Portugal and Madeira has been born. For example you can find here Nêspera cake, spinach cake and honey cake with passion fruit. The bestseller of the café is the well-known Brita cake from Nordic countries, which contains meringue, thin layer of dough, lemon curd and fresh cheese cream with raspberries and you can experience various textures and taste notes at the same time. A lot of the cakes also contain very little sugar making them a much healthier choice.
All the cakes, biscuits, tarts and other pastries are handmade in their own kitchen, without artificial colours, preservatives, palm oil and with the low sugar added, looking for the balance of flavors and healthy concept of confectionery. The café has got lot of positive feedback also about Bubble vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free recipes from clients who prefer these options or have dietary restrictions. Feminine pink-white interior of the café calls to enjoy cakes together with Lavazza coffee, Ronnefeldt tea, Portuguese craft beer or wine. Cakes are available also for take-away or for pre-order for birthdays, parties and other events.
Kaidi and Agne hope that their cakes reach to the “heart” of Madeiran people and visitors of the island and invite everyone to visit Bubble Confeitaria & Café at CentroMar Shopping Centre.
