Rua Dr. Fernão de Ornelas is already open to pedestrian traffic after the moment when Paulo Cafôfo, the current mayor of Funchal, has symbolically passed through the renovated and closed space to the automobile traffic. Feast, music and a bust in honor of the former president of the Câmara that gave its name to the street, Fernão de Ornelas, completed a remarkable morning for that emblematic artery of Funchal.

It should be remembered that the street was the target of an intervention in the context of an architectural project of requalification of the street, as well as in the replacement of the networks of basic sanitation, and it translates an investment of 313 thousand euros.

The aim of the Funchal Chamber, led by Paulo Cafôfo, was “to make Funchal an increasingly accessible city, with a better quality of life for residents, but also more attractive for tourists.
