The Regional Government said that “the works for the construction of the roundabout of Porto Santo and the requalification of the respective square of taxis are advancing at a good pace”. In the government website, accompanied by images of the works, the executive adds that “this intervention will allow traffic to circulate fluently at the junction between Avenida Dr. Manuel Gregório Pestana Júnior and Rua Maximiano de Sousa, thus minimizing the traffic constraints recorded mainly during festive seasons and summer.”
In addition to this roundabout, the entire area around the taxi stand and the old Vila Baleira gas pump, in Porto Santo, will also be requalified. The government says it expects to have the road solution resolved early in the summer.
The Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructures (SREI), “regrets all the inconveniences caused by this intervention, being sure that the final outcome of the junction will substantially improve the circulation conditions of the population and visitors.”
Why Porto Santo needs a roundabout is beyond me, but the new Pingo Doce which will open next month will be great for the island and much needed.
