The deputy mayor of Funchal, Idalina Perestrelo, who oversees the municipal company Frente Mar Funchal, was present this morning at the Balnear do Lido Complex, which now has a new amphibious chair, following an application Municipality to the Healthy Beach national program.
This chair joins one already existing in the Lido Beach Complex and the other in Praia Formosa, to which is added the existing lift platform in Ponta Gorda, “affirming the award ‘Accessible Beach, Beach for All’, which this year was hoisted in these three spaces ”, stressed the mayor.
Idalina Perestrelo took the opportunity to thank the recognition of this national project for the work that Funchal is doing, remembering that “the beaches of Funchal are for everyone. This is another piece of equipment that enhances the accessibility of our bathing complexes, which will add, this year, another big news, which is the return to operation of the elevator in Barreirinha, which had been stopped for over a decade. For us, promoting accessibility in municipal public spaces has been essential. ”
The Healthy Beach program was launched in May 2005 by the Vodafone Foundation, with the aim of improving the safety, environment and accessibility of bathing areas, through the donation of equipment for this purpose, as well as the promotion of awareness actions in these areas. . In 2019, 12 amphibious chairs were delivered throughout the country, Funchal being one of the cities contemplated.
