The Regional Civil Protection Service’s Forest Fire Operational Plan (POCIF) helicopter is on its way to Santa do Porto Moniz to reinforce the firefighting that started at 10 pm yesterday.
On the site are teams of the São Vicente and Porto Moniz Volunteer Firefighters (BVSVPM) and Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters (BVM), with 21 operational and seven light and heavy vehicles to fight the flames, and the fire remains uncontrolled and close to homes.
This morning, a house was in danger and sometimes the fire was out of control. It has not yet been possible to ascertain whether any housing had to be evacuated.
PSP and PJ are investigating the causes of the fire.
