To mark World Heart Day commemorating September 29, Madeira Private Hospital will offer a free screening during the week of September 23-27.
Screening includes various exams / tests: electrocardiogram, cholesterol assessment, blood glucose, blood pressure, body mass index (weight and height) and waist circumference.
September 29 is celebrated around the world and is promoted by the World Heart Foundation, which is the main representative organisation for the cardiovascular community, including national and international societies, such as the Portuguese Cardiology Foundation and the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.
Encouraging the community to adopt healthier lifestyles and contribute to health education are, according to the HPM Administration, some of its social responsibilities.
This is why we decided to organise Heart Week, because according to national and international statistics, controlling risk factors through screening and implementing healthy lifestyles can reduce the incidence of acute myocardial infarction by 80%. as well as premature deaths, says the HPM.
Although the overall prevalence of cardiovascular disease has improved in recent years, the fact remains that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in Portugal. So stick to this year’s motto: “Be a hero of the heart, make a promise; the promise to eat well and drink wisely, the promise to become more active, the promise to stop smoking. ”
