This Wednesday opens the road that connects Rua da Ribeira de João Gomes to the Expressway.
The opening for traffic should take place at 4 pm on Wednesday, September 18, as at 1 pm the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, will make a personal visit to the work now completed.
This is an investment budgeted at € 16.3 million (including VAT) and results from the need to prevent the risk of landslides falling off the cliffs.
It should be noted that this road was closed since November 2018.
In this section, two reinforced concrete fall protection structures were built on both sides of the João Gomes stream, covering the curved passage over the stream. The work was mainly aimed at the construction of reinforced concrete structures, with spans between 13.5 meters and 17.5 meters, in order to protect the three lanes of the existing road.
The 231-meter stretch of the right bank of the Ribeira de João Gomes is connected to the existing Pestana Júnior Tunnel, which only underwent lighting and some safety signs, which now have a total length of 460 meters. Already on the left bank of the Ribeira de João Gomes, the executed walled structure has a total of 110 meters and supports two consoles with 7, 5 meters of span.
This contract is co-financed by PO-SEUR at 85% and was awarded to the external consortium formed by AFAVIAS – Engenharia e Construcoes, SA and Construtora do Tâmega Madeira, SA, for € 16,321,608.96 (VAT included) ).
