The nucleus of Madeira of the Portuguese Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CPPME) carried out, this afternoon, in the taxi rank next to Funchal Municipal Garden, an initiative that aims to denounce “the problems and threats” that fall upon the taxis sector in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and where they have advanced that a new platform will be coming to rival UBER within a few weeks.
“There may be a similar platform coming up, the confederation already had the information, and it is coming soon. This is one of the things that we will support, since if it is for the welfare of taxi drivers, of course we will support. We’re here for that, ”said Paulo Ricardo Azevedo, director of CPPME’s regional nucleus.
Eusébio Gomes, former chairman of the AITRAM Assembly (Taxi Industry Association of the Autonomous Region of Madeira) and a taxi driver for 37 years, said he joined the Confederation to have a voice with the rulers.
“We want to claim if the UBER contingent is not made. If we notice the consumption of the continent derived from the orography there and ours from here, we end up paying double. What we want is to put our prices together with those of UBER. But for that, we need better fuel prices and we understand that it was excellent that the price of our fuel was the same as the boats, in order to survive, ”he said.
