Madeira won, for the fifth time in a row, the ‘World Travel Awards’ for ‘Best Island Destination in the World’ at the Grand Final Gala ceremony that took place tonight in the city of Muscat, Oman.
The Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture and President of the Madeira Promotion Association, Eduardo Jesus, stresses the importance of Madeira winning the award again, which consolidates the achievements of the previous four years and which allows to increase the visibility of the destination. internationally at a time when this factor is of particular importance.
The ‘World Travel Awards’, recognized as the top tourism awards in the various shortlisted sectors, are awarded after online voting by the public and tourism professionals from around the world.
Voting to be ‘World’s Leading Island Destination 2019’ were islands from around the world such as Belize, Bali (Indonesia), Barbados, Bora Bora, Cozumel (Mexico), Crete (Greece), Fiji Islands, Hawaii, Jamaica, Maldives, Islands Mauritius. Santa Lucia, Sardinia (Italy), Seychelles, Sicily (Italy), and Zanzibar (Tanzania).
It is recalled that at the European Gala of the ‘World Travel Awards’, held this year in Funchal, at the Belmond Reid’s Palace hotel, on June 8, Madeira won, for the 6th time, the award for ‘Best European Island Destination’. ‘(Europe’s Leading Island Destination).
It has beaten destinations such as the Azores, the Balearics, the Canaries, Crete, Cyprus, Guernsey, Jersey, Malta, Sardinia and Sicily.
