The number of births in the Autonomous Region of Madeira remains negative and in the first nine months of 2019 the scenario was no different from recent years, with 39 fewer babies ‘coming into the world’.
According to preliminary demographic data from January to September 2019, released today by the Regional Statistics Directorate, 1,404 live births were recorded (compared to 1,443 in the same period of 2018).
ADR continued to have a negative natural balance of -630 individuals, as the number of live births was lower than the number of deaths (2,034).
According to data released this morning, “by the end of Q3 2019, 4 deaths under 1 year and 3 dead fetuses were also recorded.”
Between January and September 2018, the number of deaths under 1 year was identical, with 5 dead fetuses.
In the reporting period, there were 350 marriages, 24 fewer than in the same period last year.
