Gusts of up to 108 km/h in the last hour at Madeira Airport prevented the arrival and landing of the last flight scheduled to Funchal today, the arrival of the easyJet flight from Lisbon. After a long wait off Madeira, the low cost airline’s aircraft is returning to Lisbon, which amounts two more cancelled flights (arrival and departure).
Confirming the cancellation of these last two calls still scheduled for today, will increase to 12 flights already cancelled from Wednesday afternoon until early tomorrow afternoon. Six from TAP, four from easyJet and two from Condor. Interestingly, the only cancellations that did not occur previously, ie before their aircraft took off for Madeira, were flights operated by easyJet. In the middle of the afternoon the plane of this company diverted to Porto Santo, before returning to Germany. Tonight’s flight now returns to Lisbon after the usual waiting maneuvers off Madeira.
Forecasts of high wind are not encouraging, at least until mid-tomorrow, when the orange warning is in effect.
Until 20 hours the strongest gust recorded by IPMA automatic weather stations was felt in Chão do Areeiro and marked 126 km/h.
