The Funchal City Council (CMF) ensures that all applications for the 93 spaces for sale on the Night Market, celebrated from 23 to 24 December, in the main downtown arteries around the Farmers Market were accepted. The guarantee was given to RTP-Madeira by Councilman João Pedro Vieira, who is responsible for licensing and markets.
The draw for the allocation of spaces took place this Thursday at CMF, with predefined criteria and registration. The councilor explained that priority was given to downtown merchants with shops on the streets covered by Night Market. The number of food and drink stalls is slightly lower than last year’s, but all eligible applicants who met the established requirements were provided with spaces for sale.
Speaking to RTP-M, the councilman highlighted the transparency of the process of distributing the 93 spaces by lot, giving priority to merchants who have facilities on the streets where the Market Night takes place, along with clubs and associations of the county. Establishments based on the Night Market grounds may be open to the public until later.
Candidates who did not fulfill the conditions announced in the previous registration were excluded from the competition. Having no debt to the Municipality or the regularized situation in Finance were some of the obligations.
As in previous editions, the reusable glass will be mandatory for overnight beverage marketing from 23rd to 24th December, a way to reduce plastic use and waste production.
