Hi all,

I am launching a Patreon Page, this will give you a much better and personal look at life in Madeira.

I will share many of my experiences in Madeira, bars and restaurants I love to visit, and those to avoid. Places to visit, routes I love to take when out and about, and so much more.

Once I have 100 Patreons then we will have monthly competitions, where you can win some great prizes, the higher the platform the more ticket entries you have for competitions, no addition cost for these competitions.

You can become a supporter from as little as $2.00 a month, the platform is safe and easy to use.

There will only be a maximum of 500 Patrons  who can join this exclusive membership, and you will be sent your winning numbers for the competitions once joined.

Please only sign up if you can afford to do so, the blog will always remain free, but I think this will be fun, you will see another side to Madeira, and living on the island, plus interact with me a whole lot more, and have any questions or topics replied to instantly.     Maybe you could include a ‘Hugo log’ on his preparation and arrival In Madeira (May) with doggy friendly places to walk and eat ?

  5. I’m very unsure of things like this Tobi. LOVE you Blog If it were £ s poss but wary of $. ? Calenders looks awesome I not Techsavy and hardly ever view YouTube so unsure what to do ?!!!

Tobi, as this venture will involve payment you will need to get written consent (email will suffice) from all clients as it will be considered an enterprise unit EU law, you will need to comply with GDPR as you will retain data on them, you can nominate yourself or another as the responsible data protection officer, it requires considerable research, failure to comply can be very, very expensive. You will also be aware that you will need to keep financial records as you will become a business rather than it being a hobby.
    If I can suggest two other steps, get yourself indemnity insurance as if you make any statement that someone objects to you would be personally liable for damages, also if you’re going to give advice on eateries, venues etc keep all receipts for your purchases, rival companies will scream corruption if they think you’re getting freebies or preferential treatment to one business over another.

    1. Thanks, the blog is already register with the Finanças here, as I get some ad revenue. I will check with the Patreon platform about data, my blog is GDPR.

    2. But it’s good, I don’t want to be to pushy, but will be nice to see more signing up even on the lowest platform, as every little adds up…

  10. Just an observation Toby but since I started living here full time my experience is that the Brits here are extremely, embarrassingly, tight fisted. Maybe they are here, partly, because its cheaper to live here than UK. Even know one couple who routinely expect a discount from every restaurant they (occasionally) go to, regardless that most struggle to make a profit. Anyway, might be a reason for the low sign-up rate so far….

  11. Tobi, won’t you get into trouble with the newspapers locally for copying their content, google translating it and then selling it? Also I guess you would have to make sure that any images you select have the correct usage rights?
