First analysis of Dutch tourist in Madeira was positive

A Dutch tourist on holiday in Madeira may be the first infected with coronavirus in the Region.

The first analysis was positive, hospital sources guarantee, but it is still necessary to wait for the counterproof made at the Ricardo Jorge Institute.

The tourist was staying at Quinta do Sol, in Funchal. The police are preventing access to and exit from the hotel.

  2. World going to see big changes in the future after COVID-19. People be reviewing things. and they going to be changes in attitudes as well,. Together with the world environment problems as well.

    Typical, albeit sad, so very sad. A tourist no doubt who flaunted the advise!
    ….And now risking the lives and livelihood of many on the Island.
    But in support, people are not rationalising with the facts this is serious and deadly- other countries, ie U.K. are just not taking this infection seriously. And still today are not as proactive !
    Schools open, shopping and socialising as per normal, mere verbal advise to avoid ‘if your wish to’ not a definite please take your health AND that of others seriously.
    Who’s going to be there to look after you when your Ill if you can’t take responsibility now !!
    Nurses as I am, Doctors and support services all need to be well. They will be the life line to recovery.
    It is a time of reflection to consider what we have and what we may loose should this infection infiltrate our beautiful Island.
    But life and living come first!
    A time to appreciate memories of a time of plenty and regard the future as a bonus.
    Life will be a long way off being normal again but everyone please be frugal, think of your neighbour as well as yourselves.

  6. Was hoping we could get through the next 14 days clear of virus, now it’s not looking good. Unfortunately not everyone listens to the laws enforced. Now we have to live with the consiquences , if they did not self isolate on arrival.
    Let’s hope they did.

  7. it is really naive to think Madeira could have locked out the rest of the world and never get the covid-19. It just was a matter of time. Like a flu, there is no way everyone can avoid being infected, even being careful. I am convinced that most people will get infected, over time, and then create antibodies that makes them immune foor this virus. If this takes place slowly, the health services can continue to cope with severe cases, like people already suffering from other diseases or those weakened by old age. So yes, the Madeira lockdown has helped doing this so far, but it’s here now, and it’s going to be here to stay. Whatever you do, stop the panic because most of us won’t notice much if anything at all. Panic and sensationalist stories are only making things worse.

This kind of fatalistic thinking by Petergroenopheerenleed is part of the problem & the other part is the thinking of narcissistic people who ignore travel advisories because they don’t think it applies to them. The government here in Madeira has been trying very hard to protect the island but haven’t really been supported by the government of the republic. A further blog post by Tobi from a health professional, to quarantine incoming tourists in an empty hotel to ensure they carry out the quarantine period makes a lot of sense. Hopefully this will happen & enable the island to prevent the unfortunate situation that has taken hold of countries that initially didn’t take this virus seriously enough. We cancelled all our travel plans to mainland Europe that would have taken us through Switzerland, Germany & the Netherlands because we didn’t want to contract covid19 ourselves & didn’t want to bring it back here.
    Sorry about the rant Tobi, but it’s the way I feel.
