HOTEL IN GARAJAU FORCED TO CALL THE POLICE AFTER TOURISTS REFUSE TO BE QUARANTINED

A group of tourists (allegedly Polish) refused to comply with the 14-day quarantine period at a hotel in Garajau.

Eyewitnesses say that hotel officials were forced to contact police authorities to try to force tourists to stay at the hotel as mandated by the Regional Government for everyone arriving on the island since midnight on Sunday.

Jornal Madeira has already contacted the said hotel unit, whose performance has justified praise from residents in the locality, but has not yet received a response.

  1. It’s disgusting that these tourists come to Madeira knowing that they have to be quaranteened and flaunt this! They should ban any tourists now there is a confirmed case before there are many more!

  2. They should all be fined and put in quarantine that they should pay for until they can be sent home. So unfair of them. Putting the whole Island at risk .

  5. This is exactly what I expected, selfish people, they should be fined and banned from any return.
    How many more are doing this, I wonder if the confirmed case did isolation? Time will tell, before we get to know.
    Hopefully was confined in Hotel isolation.

  6. Yes these tourists were wrong to break the quarantine and deserve to be punished. However I wonder if these same comments would have been made had it been a local resident who had broken it. I guess from the names of those who have commented on this post and their previous comments that that would not have been the case. Maggie Norman – you really need to tone down your vitriolic comments. David Whitfield – the confirmed case would not have had to isolate as he arrived prior to that requirement, as did many local residents!
    Tobi, should you be allowing these hateful comments aimed solely at tourists, particularly after the views expressed by the Tourism boss. I think we should remember that once this crisis is over Madeira will want tourists to return . If these are subject to too many of these hateful and unnecessary comments, many may not!!!

  8. We are tourist here since Feb 26th. We would have loved to fly home after we spent our hard earned money here. We got stood up by Sata to leave this lovely Island. Now I am trying to leave to the Continent. Closing airports for people who want to leave ? Bear in mind that the new virus does not discriminate, only people do. The virus will not stop at a wall of stupidity either.

  9. Interesting that there are no comments about the Madeiran restaurant owners from Santana who have flouted quarantine since they returned to the island .
