    1. Indeed, Steve B. Breathing and morphing you say? It’s already a bit out of breath for all the updates that I had to look into this morning. But yes, it’s the only way to keepp the information as actual as possible.

  3. Don’t know where Peter got his info from, but I found Jet2 flights from Edinurgh from 20th July onwards…?
    Prices much as normal – we booked a long time ago for September and it is (including the inevitable extras) over £700 for the pair of us.

    1. I will look into this, Mike, and alter my article accordingly. Thanks. It was a massive job and I may have overlooked things. On it!

    2. You were right, Mike. I checked on Skyscanner, which is usually spot-on, but the Jet2.com flights were not in their calender. When I clicked the date and did a search via their system it came up with the flight you mention. Not even very expensive. I shall alter my article accordingly.

  8. This is good information but I must add a correction:

    Peter says:
    “There have been some ‘habeas corpus‘ lawsuits, one in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and one in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, both of them lost by the Regional Government.”

    This statement is not correct regarding Madeira. The court decided not to give continuation to this process. It was declared “inutility of process” (I´m sorry, I don´t know the exact term in English). It just means that the 2 parts found an agreement and the court did not proceed with the judgment. In this case, the agreement was to the offended perform a negative PCR test. So, the case was not “lost”.

You are very welcome to disagree with my points of view, but thankfully, on my own website, I am free to express my views and I wil continue to do so.     Scottish government handling has been appalling and I have never been so disgusted in one woman’s attempt to make political gain from the crisis from this excuse of a politician … Racing out prior to Boris and doing the exact opposite. Her tactics have been deny(have you forgotten the Nike fiasco she has covered up, distract, delay and now dictate.

    The woman is destroying the Scottish economy with her dictate, the worse by far in Europe and about to fall even more off a cliff and as far as what is currently happening in education it’s a national scandal!. When Schools open in August primary schools will go back two says a week whilst senior schools one day… how on earth can parents manage this not to mention the defect it will have on the overall well being of our young, no one under 17 has died of covid19 in Scotland, 17 under 45 have died and mainly had pre existing conditions or who were fat! Scotland’s education result are the worst in Europe by far now so how much thicker are our children going to become … get a grip

    Why is no one questioning how on earth does she get away with no one questioning how SHE has managed the Covid 19 when what has happened in Scottish nursing homes beggars belief, perhaps because she can’t pass the buck in that one we let her get away with it because us Scots want our freedom and it may damage that cause!!

    Meanwhile, folk like you who want independence make excuses for the dismal and quite seriously frightening politics, whilst expecting the rest of the UK to pick up the tab…the SNP have been used this situation to exploit this situation and make political gain.

    The good thing the SNP do and have capitalised in is the fear .. and what does that’s create… power and dictators ..

    2. Thanks for this new information, Eric. When I did my research, these flights were still bookable. I checked again just now, and they have disappeared from Skyscanner. A trial on their own website still annouces the flights scheduled, but when I tried to book one I got an error message. I altered the text in my page accordingly.

      1. They cancelled my flight twice in 1 week. I was first booked to arrive from Prague to Madeira on 15 July. Received email notification of cancellation due to COVID-19 restrictions. I called customer service and rebooked for 13 July. Two days later they cancelled for the same reason. Now I just have a voucher for future travel.

  14. As a German i’m unable to find any information about tests at airports before you take off here. Airlines are unreachable via phone etc.
    Condor used to offer a direct flight from Leipzig to Funchal (LEJ-FNC route), this one will be active only in september as i see right now (what a shame, would be just a quick taxi trip and 4h in the air), other, bigger airports seem to have direct flights. Prices seem normal, the flights over Lisbon are hella expensive for some reason compared to direct flights.

    In Germany it is really hard to get a test, unless you are showing symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case – good luck finding a test, even worse if you need it on time and not just like that.

      1. Nope since i need a test upfront in my city and then just a short trip to airport Leipzig and then the direct flight with Condor to Funchal. This is the fastest route – i see no reason to go all the way across Germany, wait for a test in the airport and then fly from a huge airport far away from me – when the usual route takes only 30min from home till i can start boarding. So no that’s not helpful at all.

Interesting article – we are still booked on a Jet2holidays flight from Newcastle on the 30th July due to Jet2holidays moving the flight commencement date to the 15th July it seem 50/50 if this flight will actually go ahead . Hopefully we will find out one way or the other when the U.K. review the quarantine requirement on the 29th June . If Portugal are wanting an air bridge with the U.K. would this not be something Maderia would consider ? Only a thought …

    1. I think all the airlines are waiting to see what the government do, easyjet at the moment have blocked booking of flights for the whole of July, this could change at the end of month.

    2. Thnaks for the Newcastle information, Barry. I had not included Newcastle in my page, I have now. Fingers crossed they won’t cancel, but at present, the flights are bookable.

      you will find this air bridge thing is something the UK wants, not Portugal or any other country. The UK wants this to bring in foreign visitors from countries that are relatively safe where covid-19 is concerned, who would not go if it would mean quarantine. I will follow this item closely to see what the consequences could be for British returning home after a visit to Madeira.

  16. Air bridges are reciprocal both ways… portugal want Uk visitors. Let’s see if these are a non starter.

    However, Madeira seems to be imposing stricter requirements on entry than main land Portugal which would Undoubtedly put Uk tourists so likely a non starter for the islands. The quarantine in the UK is only until mid July!

  17. We plan to get private Covid pcr tests done with results 72 hours before we arrive . And even if the quarantine is in place it will have little effect on us. Issue is the FCO advise of non essential travel still being in place and the possibility Jet2holidays might cancel ? Finger crossed .

    thanks for all the information, really interesting.
    I would like to ask you if the test needed to travel to Madeira is the molecular test (covid buffer) or the blood test for antibody research. Here in Italy you can only do this one, privately and pay for it, if you don’t have severe symptoms. Thank you!

  19. It seems that until September Madeira is going to be concentrating on domestic tourism. Yesterday the President of the island said the following…

    “From the 1st of July onwards, we will make a consolidated, safe reopening, taking into account what is fundamental, which is to contain the expansion of the pandemic in Madeira and have the situation under control. We hope that after September, the offer and especially the tourist industry will resume. Until then we will take advantage of these months for domestic tourism. It is not enough, but it is what we can now foresee for the future ”, he admitted.

    Miguel Albuquerque, who this afternoon visited Quinta das Vinhas, a tourist resort recently remodeled in Estreito da Calheta, recalled that the resumption of Tourism in the Region “does not depend on us. It depends fundamentally on the issuing countries ”. In most cases, “still with pandemic outbreaks”, he recalled, after pointing out the worrying example from the United Kingdom, “still with serious pandemic problems” that has already caused “more than 43 thousand deaths” and “is still not controlled”.

  20. Portuguese ambassador in England was on radio 4 yesterday saying Portugal want British tourists and are waiting for British government announcement on 29 th June.
    Algarve have 64 new cases from 100 people who went to a birthday party.
    I think there may be differences in how mainland portugal and Madeira view incoming tourists.

Government of Madeira doing a Nicola sturgeon and trying to maintain the fear it seems, delay and delay ..sounds like a sound economic plan, funds external to Portugal are much needed as there’s only so many Portuguese who can now afford to splash out on holidays, poor people of Madeira I really feel for you !

    1. That will be up to the UK government. As it comes under Portugal in the UK Government Travel guidelines I would imagine so. But there isn’t going to be a quarantine in Madeira from the 1st of July it is being replaced by the test requirements. The requirement of a test will still be in place regardless of an air bridge as that is a decision made by RAM. The air bridge would mean that you wouldn’t go into quarantine when you return to the UK.

  23. Here’s something I have not seen before, a flight from Faro! Due in at 13:30pm

    2. That is a charter flight to take Maritimo to the football match in the Algarve. But, by the way, Sata Air Açores has flown regularly weekly flights from Faro to Funchal in Summer. The last time this occurred was 2 or 3 years ago I believe.

      1. I wish they would do it every year, will be great to fly Faro, hire a car for a couple weeks and drive all through Portugal up to Porto, then fly back to Madeira.

        1. That is something I would recommend if you have not had the opportunity to do so. I was expecting Binter would do that connection in Summer since they have an aircraft based in Madeira for the Porto Santo flights, but that has no occurred and the current conjecture will certainly will prevent that from occurring in a near future.

  24. I’m not sure if there is something going on with Jet2, but there are no flights showing from Newcastle to Madeira until October now( there are from other UK airports). We have a flight booked in August and haven’t heard anything, but their website isn’t showing anything at all from now until October!

  25. Their flights to Madeira are advertised from July from every other UK airport apart from Newcastle 🙁 They don’t say cancelled/sold out or anything the months are just completely blank. Also on the Newcastle Airport website Madeira has gone from the list of places they are flying to in July.

    1. I’ve had confirmation that our August flight has been withdrawn. The next available from Newcastle with Jet2 is 29/10/2020

  26. I think you are all missing something pretty major. It is totally irrelevant what flights are or aren’t on Skyscanner or elsewhere. The simple fact is that if an airline does not meet its minimum capacity, it WILL CANCEL. That is irrespective of whether its on Skyscanner or elsewhere. I was talking with a friend yesterday – he is trying to get his daughter to Madeira from Frankfurt in early July. At the moment the airline advises him that they have 15% booked on the way out any only 2 passengers booked on the return leg a week later. If this does not change that flight will be cancelled. No airline can afford to fly empty. This is 100% in my opinion due to the rules in Madeira. As I have said before (and I know Mr Lamas will be annoyed again) that unless this changes, Madeira will not recover its tourism. I am on Algarve and I cant get home to the island either and am holding off from booking until the last minute. TAP have already cancelled the flight I had booked for 1 July. In addition to the rules in Madeira, excepting the people who populate this site, nobody wants to travel anyway! The added barrier of testing instituted and maintained by Albuquerque just makes things worse for the island. I am just surprised that nobody seems to appreciate this!

    1. The first Condor flight after restrictions from Dusseldorf to Tenerife South this week had 30 passengers in it. Usually Condor flies this flight with a larger A330 with nearly 300 passenger capacity. So you are completely right by saying people are not ready to fly yet despite airlines are making flights available. But your theory on that the test in Madeira is the source of the low demand does not fit well because as far as I am concerned there is no test in the but people are not flying there either.

      So, if only 15 passengers are coming with a test, and maybe 18 would come if there was no test, why taking the risk? By the way, stay safe in the Algarve and in Lisbon. What is happening there right now is yet another reason why people should be tested upon arrival.

  27. Me too my holiday with jet 2 from Newcastle flight for 30/7/20 Has been cancelled this afternoon . Trying now to re-book on 2/8/20 from Leeds Bradford

  28. Jet 2 have just cancelled Friday flights from July 17th to end of August, and my holiday in Caniço de Baixo at Galomar was cancelled as due to fly back on a Friday.

    Luckily able to receive credit note immediately via email and now have 14 nights instead of 11 flying in on Jet2 1st flight on the 20th. Unfortunately not at Galomar, I love Caniço de Baixo, but at my other favorite Baia Azul in the lido area, so will get the bus or car out to CDB and praia do Garajau ?

    3 trips cancelled to island already this year, am determined to get back at least once this summer.

  30. My daughter had just had her flight from Manchester cancelled with jet 2 on 31st July . We are flying Tui on the 27 July but it doesn’t like we will be flying as email on Monday suggested they were flying Greece , Canaries and Balearics and will add further destinations Aug onwards . We will hear 01 July at the latest.

      1. Friday flights cancelled, Monday flights still on. For now. Heard an interview with Pestana CEO for Madeira hotels. They are not expecting much from UK this Summer.

  31. Just said on 8 pm news in Uk that jet 2 are making over 100 pilots redundant.
    Swiss port who do ground handling stuff at Gatwick, are making 50 per cent of work force redundant.

  33. Hi All. We were scheduled to fly out from London Standsted to Madeira on 19 July. Received the cancellation email today from JET2 but it seemed to contain a silver lining. The email stated the following:

    “We’re sorry, but due to the unprecedented coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, your flight is no longer going ahead as we will be operating a reduced programme. Please see below for your affected booking(s).

    We know how much you were looking forward to a well-deserved break. The good news is, we’re flying again from 15 July 2020 so you can book another flight for this summer, including a flight to Madeira from London Stansted on a Monday. To snap up this deal or any other flight, simply request a refund credit note to use to rearrange your plans straight away! All you need to do is log in to Manage My Booking and click on ‘cancel flights’ before midnight on 30 June 2020.

    Alternatively, please wait for us to get in touch about your refund. We’re currently experiencing a much higher number of calls than usual – please wait for us to contact you.”

    We have re-booked using the refund credit note to fly out on Monday 20 July. Fingers crossed it goes ahead.

Had a Jet2 email today cancelling flight on 30th July from Newcastle, however as previously mentioned by Nino there is a possible silver lining and with a little bit of hope we rebooked from Leeds/Bradford for a few days later. The flight looked like it was nowhere near full which is another worry but we are wondering if they are trying to condense the flights to make it more cost effective for them and at the same time trying to get us UK holiday makers on a much needed break – fingers crossed.

  37. Like Michelle we have re-booked our holiday onto the Leeds Bradford flight on the 2/8/20 however who knows if this will actually happen? What does annoy me is the fact that they haven’t refunded the pre booked seats cost .

  38. Until Madeira lift the testing requirements no flights will go to Madeira … once they do then the flights will return eventually… the problem is in the interim airlines will cut back and reduce fleets .. expensive route will be the first to go !

    Unfortunately the stance been Madeira government now looks like political point scoring against Lisbon, we have the same in the UK with the SNP, the problem is the damage it does in the long term is in fathomable.

  40. Can someone let me know entry requirements now a few days ago you could show proof of a covid test no drama
    It seems to have changed again only residents the rest quartine
    Any help it’s mental changes more than my socks

    1. Don’t understand Jamie, nothing has changed. From July there is no quarantine. You need to be tested from the country you leave or when you get to Madeira.

  41. So it looks like the UK have sorted out their air corridor arrangement with most of Europe, but Portugal may be left out due to the Coronavirus outbreak in Lisbon.

    One step forward, two steps back.

    I’ve been out here since January and I really need to get back to the UK to feed the dogs (I split my year living between homes in the UK and in Madeira). I was pinning my hopes on mid-July, but not so sure now… I shall continue to watch and monitor with interest.

  45. If you can get the test and results in the 72 hours before take-off it will save you time at CR7. You still need to register and fill in the form here:–

    If your test results are clear you do not need to quarantine on arrival.

    Or:–

    You can leave it until you arrive. Just do the form above and take the test on arrival. You quarantine yourselves for 12 hours until the results come through.
