Madeira and Porto Santo on Yellow Warning for Rain.

Madeira will be, starting this Wednesday, June 17th, under yellow warning due to the heavy rainfall that will be felt throughout the region.

The warning will be in effect between noon on Wednesday until 9 am on Thursday, for heavy rain that may be accompanied by thunderstorms, on the North Coast, South Coast and mountain regions of Madeira, as well as on the island from Porto Santo.

According to Vitor Prior, Regional Delegate of the IPMA in Madeira, until Thursday the Archipelago of Madeira “will be essentially influenced by a depression” that this Monday was centred in the Azores region, “in a slow movement towards Madeira (to lose force).

This depression should influence, more significantly, the weather in the Madeira Archipelago, during the 17th and 18th.

“As of the 18th (Thursday) the weather will be influenced by the eastern edge of the Aztic Anticyclone”, he adds.

Thus, it is generally expected periods of very cloudy skies, “periods of rain or occasional heavy showers, accompanied by thunderstorms, especially from the end of the morning” on Wednesday and the end of the morning on Thursday. Showers, although weak and infrequent, should continue until the 19th (Friday).
