14 MORE CASES BY COVID-19 IN THE LAST 24 HOURS

Today there are 14 new positive cases to report, so RAM now counts 653 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the regional territory.

These are 2 imported cases (1 from Venezuela and 1 from the Autonomous Region of the Azores) and 12 cases of local transmission, mostly associated with contacts of positive cases previously identified.

Two new cases are associated with 1 imported case also identified today and, in 2 situations, contacts are still under investigation.

It should be noted that 1 of the cases of local transmission identified today concerns a health professional from the RAM Health Service, EPERAM, with an association with 1 positive case already identified.

Today there are 9 more recovered cases to report.

  1. This is a tragedy for Madeira
    The Virus has seemingly now spread within the resident population ? Having been imported initially by tourists.This is how the Virus spread like wildfire in rhe UK at the start of the pandemic.

    The UK failed on most fronts in its handling . Too little too late on most scores sadly. Until countries obtain large supplies of a safe and effective vaccine – which is still a few months off. Battening down the hatches in terms iof not socialising ( shops, restaurants and hotels etc) keeping to one’s single family unit ‘ bubble’ and all the hygiene strictness. And mass testing now. These seem the ways to to reduce the R rate below 1.

    If the UK and anywhere else behaves as if it is a near normal Xmas even in terms of shopping and socialising – then more real pain is ahead.

      But….many others are of the opinion that the tourists should continue coming, because it’s good for the economy, the health of our population is not interesting at all.

      1. Amen. I think we are all going to die before Christmas. Too late to close the airport. When the tourists land in January we will all be dead by then.

          1. Unfortunately reality is not always optimistic Maurice, however, many people rather bury their heads in the sand than face reality.

            F.Y.I., being realistic is completely separate from being pessimistic, optimistic or being a happy person.

            Dear Maurice, you make your world a lot smaller by judging others if they don’t see things the way you like to see things, it’s quite shortsighted.

            I suggest you respect the opinion of others and if you can’t, please just sit back in your senior chair and read a book or do something else useful but stop that silly criticism.

  3. Such doom and gloom. Get this into perspective please. It is inevitable that the local population would eventually get the virus in pockets. What is not inevitable is that you will automatically die from it. Also the good news is that some already have natural immunity as this virus is similar to other flu viruses. Be sensible with what you do yourself, shield your elderly and look after your own immune health. You do not blame tourists for bringing the normal flu or the common cold over, yet Covid you do and the common flu can kill just as many people. Go research it yourself, MSM is just filled with scary headlines and exaggerated data that keep you in fear….

    1. Thank goodness for pragmatic, common sense posts like this one. I read this blog with detached interest but if prospective tourists landed on it it they would recoil in terror. perhaps that is the intention?

    2. NOBODY here has ever said that people will automatically die from Covid.
      I guess it would be very good to stop talking about this subject here it’s becoming very tiring.

    That’s taking things to extreme at any level serious and definitely put tourists off.
    Lois/Maurice, kiss and make up, getting up to your spats in this ever increasing world of dome is a bit much to ask of people with their own worries and concerns.
