Last night’s storm

More than seven thousand atmospheric electrical discharges have been recorded in Madeira in the last 24 hours, most of them off the island of Madeira and also on the south coast and the Desertas. The most critical phase started around 2:45 am, with the lightning and thunder storm gradually moving to the Desertas, where it ended up leaving by 4 am.

Most discharges were recorded between clouds, but at least two were hitting the ground. In total in 24 hours, 5,101 positive atmospheric electrical discharges (DEA) were recorded by the Institute of sea and atmosphere and 2,262 negative.
