Madeira with new record, now 115 positive cases in one day

Madeira currently has 115 more positive new cases to report, so RAM now counts 2,585 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the regional territory.

According to the SRS epidemiological report, there are 2 imported cases (1 from the United Kingdom and 1 from the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region) and 113 cases of local transmission, most of which are already associated with contacts or contexts of positive cases. In the meantime, epidemiological investigations are still ongoing to track potential cases.

Mention should be made of the 42 recovered cases to be reported this Saturday, which means that the Region now counts 1,412 recovered cases of COVID-19 and 1,155 active cases, of which 161 are imported cases and 994 are cases of local transmission.

There are also another 220 suspected cases.

  1. This is horrendous for Madeira (it’s people and economy) perhaps your post will make those who went up into the park today think a bit.

  2. I get the blogs every day and without exception there are always more cases arriving from the UK, I live in the UK and there are very few UK flights, that being the case just where are the UK infections coming from? Are they from arriving travellers every day?

  3. Since weeks i read about new positive cases related to chains of already known cases. How is this possible? If we know the contacts, we could stop the chain. But i guess its all due to stupid family behaviour, as nobody in those families and also their will not get it.

  4. We are in the ‘old’ category, we are like many of our contempories following the rules. We shop once a week, locally have not been to a major supermarket since March. The rest of the time we stay in except for a lunch out using our local little restaurants. OK we are a couple and that makes it easier. How is it necesssary to insist that people follow basic rules – keep your distance – use your masks – if you have a problem use your phone! Do you really want to get rid of your families by mixing?

  5. Travel is a contributor, as well as locals, to much emphasis on who is responsible.
    Time for all to heed the much publicised advice about looking after ourselves and others.
    Madeira did a fantastic job early on in the pandemic unfortunately the virus is now increasing.
    As much as I miss the Island and other favourite destinations travelling will not be a priority.
    during these uncertain times.

  6. Bill and Jochen absolutely right. So far a I am aware, there have been no flights to Madeira from the UK so far this year! Local spread of virus from previously known contacts. Why are all these contacts not required to self-isolate as well as the people they have had contact with, since the original contact with the person now ill with virus? Madeira did so well initially, it should have been a simple matter to crack down on the people misbehaving over the Festive Season to say nothing of the idiots who drove up the mountains to see the snow. Another month and the whole island will be affected – see what is happening in the UK! Hospitals overwhelmed with covid patients, people sick with other illnesses not being attended to, and 43,000 NHS staff also sick with the virus. It is an easy matter to both avoid the virus and to get it. The choice is up to the individual!

    1. Wizz Air, BA, Easy Jet all fly to Madeira, EasyJet have a daily flight from Gatwick I believe. The question is what are the nationalities of the flyers, their status as resident and did their journey originate in the UK. Because of the regulations by Portuguese and UK Governments there should be no UK holidaymakers.

    2. BA had a flight on Saturday and have another on Monday. Easyjet had a flight on Sunday

Am just wondering what it’s like on the ground now post brexit with the new rules coming in and how things will actually work regarding the 90 day rule. Thanks

  7. Hi we too are interested in Hadley’s question regard the 90 day rule and passport stamping when leaving Madeira. We are seasoned visitors and decided to avoid the UK November lockdown and support the economy here. We arrived here on 3rd November 2020 and have no definite plans to return any time soon. Mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing are second nature to us. The bars and restaurants we frequent have appropriate measures in place. The staff at the Jardins D’Ajuda have been fantastic. Generally, when out and about, people tend to have a problem with spacial awareness when it comes to social distancing. Let’s hope public awareness education forms part of the new measures to be introduced tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your tremendous hospitality and we wish you all well during these difficult times. ?
