SNOW SHOULD CONTINUE TO FALL UNTIL MONDAY

The predictions of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere indicate that the cold weather will continue during the next week, with showers that may be snow in the highest points of the island of Madeira until the early morning of Monday, January 11 .

The snowfall at the highest points of the island put the mountainous regions of Madeira under yellow warning until 9 am this Sunday, due to the conditioning of the roads and the risk of damage to structures or trees caused by the accumulation of ice.

As JM has already reported, the snowfall and the large influx of motorists to the Madeiran mountains led to the closure of several accesses to the highest points, namely to Paul da Serra, Achada do Teixeira and Fonte do Bispo. The road between Poiso and Pico do Areeiro has also been closed since Friday.
