  2. Thanks for all the posts and updates, Tobi. Can confirm that the rain was relentless in central Funchal, and buildings were struck by lightning many times throughout the evening and night. Some of the photos here are extraordinary – especially the last one. Power went off at least three times for at least an hour, but many thanks to the electricity engineers from the power company who must have battled throughout the night in dangerous conditions.

    Mobile phone data speeds were very slow to non-existent, but power back on for a while now and conditions currently calm with mostly blue skies. A lot of sirens in town and, I expect, some places flooded, but other places already completely dry.
